On BMW S63 and N63 engines fitted in most BMW M models from 2008, they develop blue smoke while idling and pulling away after a stop at traffic lights, you will also have high oil consumption resulting in poor performance. These engines are also known to suffer from rod bearing failure due to oil starvation and poor oil changes.
